World Design Capitals’ declaration for design-led transition in cities
The World Design Capitals and the partners of Lille Metropole agree on a joint declaration in favor of the transformation of our territories and public policies through design.
Gathered for the Network of Cities Meeting, the signature event of Lille Métropole 2020, World Capital of Design, which took place on October 13, the cities of Cape Town, Helsinki, Taipei, Turin and Valencia, have launched a joint declaration through which they reassert the crucial role of local governments in implementing sustainable and transformative design-led solutions to improve citizens’ wellbeing and promote sustainable ways of living, particularly to cope with health and economic present crisis. With the support of Eurocities, Cités Unies France, Cities Today Institute and the city of Leeds they are committed to:

Taking stock of the World health and economic current COVID19 crisis, to adapt public policies, technical solutions and organization in order to better respond to the crises with which they could be confronted
Make design an innovative tool to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
