In September 2021, Lille Metropole EU office in Brussels launched an internal Challenge called "Put Europe in your projects"

News & Publications

The goal was to encourage colleagues to become more open to Europe by strengthening the European dimension of existing projects or by proposing new European activities in line with Lille Metropoles priorities. About ten teams participated in the Challenge. The jury announced the results of the Challenge on May 9, 2022. MELbility won 1st place. BIM-Cycle and EphéMEL tied for 2nd place. As a reward, the teams went to Amsterdam and Brussels for a study trip related to their project topic.

For 6 months, MELbility team work on a lobbying action in favor of people with disabilities accessibility to electric vehicle charging infrastructures. On September 15 and 16, team members met with their counterparts in Amsterdam to discuss mobility and accessibility issues. It was an opportunity to learn more about Amsterdam's priorities and ambitions.

BIM-Cycle carried a project that consists of relying on the development of digital technology (in particular BIM) to promote circular economy but also to structure and optimize materials reuse in rehabilitation projects. The team focused on a concrete case: the Blanchemaille site in Roubaix. A project that aims the transformation of the former la Redoute headquarters into a digital ecosystem dedicated to e-commerce. On the 6th and 7th of October, BIM-Cycle team met with European and Brussels actors involved in issues related to the circular economy.

Finally, EphéMEL team worked on transitional urbanism, i.e. the temporary or experimental occupation of a place (temporary housing, circular economy, hosting start-ups, associative and cultural projects, fab-labs). The team's project is to create a toolbox to develop projects of animation and transitional management of vacant spaces of sites concerned by an urban renewal project. On the 13th and 14th of October 6 site visits were organized in different sectors of the Brussels-Capital Region.

With this last study trip, the first European Challenge organized in Lille Metropole also ends. This Challenge lasted 14 months. About 50 colleagues participated in this Challenge. Several European exchanges and events were organized with the support of Lille Metropole EU office.

A big thank you to our Belgian partners Citydev, perspective.brussels and Brussels Environment as well as our counterparts in Amsterdam for their availability and warm welcome.
