Lille Metropole supports 30 young metropolitan athletes to prepare for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 2024.
Lille Metropole has many young athletes who are preparing now to bring back medals from the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024 and make the territory shine. Despite high ambitions, some of them have sometimes very limited resources that prevent them from training in good conditions.
In order to support them in their Olympic or Paralympic project, Lille Metropole has decided to allocate annual financial assistance to 30 of them. This scheme is a first for a French local authority in view of the Paris Games. Each accompanied athlete will benefit from a financial support of 4,000 € per year until 2024.
The goal is to help those young athletes to help cover their expenses (equipment and travelling mostly) and to help them focus on their careers and studies, while not being under financial pressure. In return, athletes commit to become ambassadors of the territory for the years to come and help develop sports practise and raise awareness to the youth. As ambassadors they will take part to numerous grassroots events from MEL those will be labelled “Terre de Jeux 2024”, to link with youths and share healthy sport habits. Those promising young athletes selected come from various backgrounds, they will compete in a wide variety of sports (athleticism, swimming, cycling, rugby, boxing basketball, rowing) and we are very proud to accompany them in their great journey to the Olympics.
